Cutting Edge, Status

Hi All:

Am running the following:
xfce-base/exo-0.11.5
xfce-base/garcon-0.6.1
xfce-base/thunar-1.6.12
xfce-base/libxfce4ui-4.13.3
xfce-base/libxfce4util-4.13.1
xfce-base/libxfcegui4-4.10.0-r1
xfce-base/xfce4-appfinder-4.12.0-r1
xfce-base/xfce4-panel-4.13.0
xfce-base/xfce4-session-4.13.0
xfce-base/xfce4-settings-4.13.1
xfce-base/xfconf-4.13.3
xfce-base/xfdesktop-4.13.1
xfce-base/xfwm4-4.13.0
xfce-extra/xfce4-notifyd-0.3.6
xfce-extra/xfdashboard-0.4.0
x11-terms/xfce4-terminal-0.8.5.1

Its fairly cutting edge so am willing to put up with the bugs associated with same.
What doesn't work:
Thunar. Lots of crashing, known issues. Am using PCman as an alternative until its sorted. The Gentoo maintainers are only pull stuff in from xfce git and don't do manually patching so you don't get the updates like you do in fedora and such. The fedora rpm is at version 1.6.12-fc27 so they have done quite a bit of patching to fix it up. I may unmerge the gentoo package and put the rpm in, still deciding.

Have gotten rid of xfce-mixer as it doesn't work with any of the 4.13 stuff and replaced it with pnmixer. It works fine but has issues with panel. To get it to show up the panel I need to:
open terminal,
xfcer-panel -r,
'run program' pnmixer,
Then it shows up and works properly. If I don't follow that sequence, I can't see it in the notification area.

Have just updated to net-wireless/blueman-2.1_alpha1 in an attempt to get my bluetooth icon back on xfce4-panel but did not work. Still no bluetooth status in the noticiatin area since moving to the 4.13 release.

xfce4-panel, quite buggy. The xfce4-places-plugin won't run on the 4.16 panel. gentoo have only the 1.7.0 version of places in portage but fedora has 1.7.0-5.fc26 in their repository so am using that, works great. The panel has text remnants behind the notification area and in the running apps area if a space opens up due to an odd number of applications running....a minor issue.

xfce-extra/xfce4-taskmanager-1.2.0 does not show up in the notification window either.

The CUPS printer icons also do not work with the 4.13 panel. They don't show up in the notification panel like they used to with the 4.12 release.
The following plugins are working from gentoo's portage:
xfce-extra/xfce4-screenshooter-1.9.1
xfce-extra/xfce4-datetime-plugin-0.7.0
xfce-extra/xfce4-xkb-plugin-0.8.0
xfce-extra/xfce4-kbdleds-plugin-0.0.6
xfce-extra/xfce4-clipman-plugin-1.4.2
xfce-extra/xfce4-battery-plugin-1.1.0
xfce-extra/xfce-theme-manager-0.3.6
The showdesktop plugin works but it appears to be part of the panel package as can't see as installed plugin...and it also lists without the (external) indicator in the panel applet.

Eagerly awaiting new release bits, I check each morning when I get to the office if there are any new tidbits int eh portage tree for xfce4.

keep up the good work.

Cheers,
John

Have also moved to the Blueman latest from git.

The update to xfce4-panel-4.13.1 has sorted teh following issues:
1. pnmixer no longer required a xfce4-panel restart prior to starting pnmixer,
2. Blueman is now showing up in the notification area,

What still doesn't work:
1. The CUPS icon tried to get into the notification area, the panel jumps about a bit but it just doesn't happen,
2. The text remnants are stiff visible in the panel.

Its getting there. Keep up the good work.

Cheers,
John

Re: Cutting Edge, Status

Ok, new updated panel with the new update xfwm4 breaks the old xfce4-places-plugin.
I can live with that as we move forward.

New Rostretto built fine:

XFCE4-Places-plugin

Hello All:

Since my upgrade to xfce-base/xfce4-panel-4.13.1 the xfce4-places-plugin no longer works. I was using the fedora patched version of the 1.7.0 version which worked on panel-4.13.0 but broke on 4.13.1.

Just wondering if there are any places to update this plugin.

Cheers,
john
