Not open some files, if the path has Russian letters

Some programs will not open files if the path has Russian letters, for example qbittorent. How to fix it?

System opensuse leap 42.3 XFCE4, if loaded under IceWM, there are no such problems.

Re: Not open some files, if the path has Russian letters

Hello and welcome.

What exact version of Xfce is shipped with opensuse leap 42.3?

xfce4-about -V

...and more specifically, what version of exo does it use?

exo-open -V

...I believe there was a bug in exo at one point in time that was causing a similar issue. Perhaps this one?

What happens if you try using another torrent program like transmission? Does it have the same problem?

dima@dma:~> xfce4-about -V
xfce4-about 4.12.1 (Xfce 4.12)

xfce4-about 4.12.1 (Xfce 4.12)

It is not in your torrent client and open the file. Attached a screenshot of the error with another program.

How about exo? What version of exo is installed?

exo-open -V

Also, is that second screenshot from transmission?

The bug I noted above https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9912 was fixed and release in version 0.10.7. I believe that is the bug that is causing the issue for you.

Re: Not open some files, if the path has Russian letters

There are a couple of options:

  1. Ask the opensuse maintainer of the Xfce packages to upgrade to the package to 0.10.7

  2. If the possibility exists in opensuse, you can try to build/upgrade the package yourself. You'd need to ask the opensuse forums to get the proper instructions on how to do this.
