Re: xfce version

On the command line, xfce4-about (and in the graphical menu "About Xfce") will open a window with version info, credits, etc.

Re: xfce version

If installed. They're not for us, and I can't find it in Debian. I thought it might be part of xfce4-goodies but couldn't find it after installing that.

We ship with inxi, now as a MX tool, and get the Xfce version this way:

$ inxi -S
System: Host: ULTRA Kernel: 4.14.0-3-amd64 x86_64 bits: 64 Desktop: Xfce 4.12.3
           Distro: MX-17_x64 Horizon December 15, 2017

MX-23 (based on Debian Stable) with our flagship Xfce 4.18.

@Jerry3904

I just checked, and xfce4-about comes from libxfce4ui-utils.

I guess Mate is being used as my desktop manager.

Can I change it to XFCE?

Thanks--that's pretty well hidden! Added this to my rolling Xfce collection of tidbits.)

A question for Ubuntu people, I guess. For us, the user installs it if necessary, then selects it on the login page.

Re: xfce version

@fixit

What do you want to change? There's this very detailed post from the Ubuntu MATE forum titled "Replace Caja with Thunar and XFCE Desktop" and then there's the classical easy way:

sudo apt-get install xfce4 xfce4-goodies
# Log out, and pick Xfce when logging in again

But there are a number of subtleties and shenanigans that could make a difference, so if you give us more info, or browse Ask Ubuntu some time you'll get a more clear view...

Re: xfce version

Thanks.

I was told that replacing Caja with XFCE could break my system.

The MATE forum link was exactly about that, did you take a look at it?

Please elaborate, what do you want to achieve? what are your pain points now?
