Cannot compile xfce-sample-plugin

I cant compile the sample plugin.  I clone it into a directory, run autogen.sh, import into my IDE, and this is the output when trying to make:

cd '/home/jacob/Desktop/scripts/xfce4-sample-plugin'

RUN FAILED (exit value 2, total time: 18s)

What's ultimately frustrating is I don't care for the other languages.  A feature that I don't need is breaking a plugin I solely intend to use for myself, which I'm fully aware which language I need.  Can't find anything on google about this, its obviously only happening here so this is where I'm submitting it.

Re: Cannot compile xfce-sample-plugin

Note that I am forced to do the following before I can even successfully run autogen.sh:

mv configure.ac.in configure.ac
autoreconf -i

I can't import the project until I run autogen, and autogen looks for configure.ac, and for some ignorant reason you guys didn't name the configure.ac.in file correctly.  Which forced me to autoreconf, and I'm assuming has lead to this error.

Re: Cannot compile xfce-sample-plugin

Which IDE are you using? Which distro?

I tested with VisualCode and created three tasks:
- Xfce configure - which runs "./autogen.sh --prefix=/usr"
- Xfce make - which runs "make"
- Xfce make clean - which runs "make clean"
...and it works fine.

I also tested with anjuta. Unfortunately, for some reason, anjuta crashes if autogen is run first on the directory. However, if I manually run "./autogen.sh --prefix=/usr" in the directory, then anjuta is able to configure and build without a problem.

I got it to compile, but after putting the generated .so file in /usr/lib/xfce4/panel/plugins/ it's still not showing up in the 'Add Items' dialog of panel preferences.

I changed the @LIGUAIS@ symbol to 'en_AU', effectively removing all the language compatibility however allowing a smooth compilation.

IDE and distro: Netbeans with Manjaro 64bit.  EDIT: So, by deleting the 'Clipboard Manager' plugin named libclipman.so, and renaming the sample plugin to libclipman.so, it was then able to run. Is there somewhere else the "list of available plugins to load" is defined?  I noticed something about .desktop files, but haven't located them (maybe they are named differently).

Re: Cannot compile xfce-sample-plugin

If you "make install" it should put everything where it needs to go:
- icons to /usr/share/icons/hicolor/
- the .desktop file to /usr/share/xfce4/panel/plugins
- the library file to /usr/lib/xfce4/panel/plugins
- translation files to /usr/share/locale

You're probably missing the .desktop file.

Re: Cannot compile xfce-sample-plugin

BTW, I was able to get netbeans to work - you need to make sure it's configured properly.

  1. First get the code:

    git clone git://git.xfce.org/panel-plugins/xfce4-sample-plugin
  2. Start Netbeans and select File > New Project

  3. Step 1 > Select C/C++ as project type

  4. Step 2 > select the folder that has the source and select Custom Configuration Mode

  5. Step 3 > Check "Prebuild step is required" and enter as the Custom Command:

    ./autogen.sh --prefix=/usr
  6. Step 4 > Change Clean command to:

    make clean

...and change the Build Command to

    make
  7. Step 5 > no changes

  8. Step 6 > no changes

  9. Step 7 > no changes

...and neteans will automatically configure and build the package when you click Finish.

To deploy the package, run:

sudo make install

...from within the source directory (you can use the terminal window within netbeans to do this).
