How to customize the login screen of Xscreensaver?

I want to make it look more modern, being able to apply any gtk theme would be good. I want to be able to change the cursor too. It may be worth noting that I'm not using any cursor theme installed by APT, I downloaded them manually and just extracted the theme files in /usr/share/icons.
Also, any way to make it only appear on keyboard input and not from mouse input?
This is how it currently looks:

From the manual:

X RESOURCES
These are the X resources use by the xscreensaver program. You probably won't need to change these manually (that's what the xscreensaver-demo program is for).

pointerHysteresis (class Integer)
If the mouse moves less than this-many pixels in a second, ignore it (do not consider that to be "activity.") This is so that the screen doesn't un-blank (or fail to blank) just because you bumped the desk. Default: 10 pixels.

So maybe if you set this to a number bigger than your screen's dimensions (say 2000 for a 1920x1080 screen), mouse movement won't ever trigger it... Just wondering, good luck.
