strange plugin on the panel for one user

there is a strange plugin on the panel for one user and i cannot see how i can remove it.  you can see the screenshot here.  the plugin is dark and hard to see.  look at the word "Preferences", then look at the spot just left of the "P", then look at the plugin just above that spot.  i get that menu when i right-click that plugin.  as you can see, there is no "Move" or "Remove" i can do on it.  does anyone know what this is and how i cam get rid of it?

If you click on About, what it does it say the plugin is?

Re: strange plugin on the panel for one user

Is there an entry for ibus in Settings Manager > Session and Startup > Startup Applications? If so, uncheck it.

Edit: Just select quit. You must have inadvertently started it from within the Settings Manager.

I found this page (the Arch Linux wiki pages are full of information that can be helpful even when one is running a different distro):
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/IBus

ArchLinux Wiki wrote:

IBus (Intelligent Input Bus) is an input method framework, a system for entering non-Latin characters.

Additionally, I noticed in your screenshot of the "About" window that there is a link to the developer's website (as is often the case). My guess is that there should be some kind of information available about Ibus there.

Regards,
MDM

Re: strange plugin on the panel for one user

i had a pre-conception of what ibus was which was wrong.  now this explains more.  and it may be what i need to type in some Nordic/Germanic characters that my US keyboard does not have.
