How to change desktop path?

all of my userids, except one, have the main screen showing 3 disk partitions, 3 other objects (trash, file system, home), and the contents of ~/Desktop.  the one userid ("vx") that is different, shows objects in ~ instead of objects in ~/Desktop.

how can i change what path it is showing objects from.  for now, i want to make "vx" show ~/Desktop like the others do.

in the file manager, i can double click on a directory and it changes to show that directory.  but when i do this in the main screen, hoping it will change the main screen to that directory, instead it just opens the file manager at that directory.  i have tried both left and right mouse buttons, without any keys, and with Shift, Cntl, Fn, the ubuntu symbol, and Alt keys, all without any luck.

Re: How to change desktop path?

By "main screen," are you referring to the desktop? If so, lol, that was a neat trick roll . Have you renamed that user's home directory, attempted to rename that user, or... ?

This is eight-year old advice and might not help, BUT check the ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs -file, and make sure it has the following entry in it:

XDG_DESKTOP_DIR="$HOME/Desktop"

For reference, here is mine. I do not believe I have changed it from default (although I could be mistaken).

# This file is written by xdg-user-dirs-update
# If you want to change or add directories, just edit the line you're
# interested in. All local changes will be retained on the next run
# Format is XDG_xxx_DIR="$HOME/yyy", where yyy is a shell-escaped
# homedir-relative path, or XDG_xxx_DIR="/yyy", where /yyy is an
# absolute path. No other format is supported.
#
XDG_DESKTOP_DIR="$HOME/Desktop"
XDG_DOWNLOAD_DIR="$HOME/Downloads"
XDG_TEMPLATES_DIR="$HOME/Templates"
XDG_PUBLICSHARE_DIR="$HOME/Public"
XDG_DOCUMENTS_DIR="$HOME/Documents"
XDG_MUSIC_DIR="$HOME/Music"
XDG_PICTURES_DIR="$HOME/Pictures"
XDG_VIDEOS_DIR="$HOME/Videos"

MDM
