anyone know what failed with this?

i got this pop-up when i did a command to change a bunch of .desktop files to try another firefox option.  you can see the change diffs output in the terminal  window.

what is interesting is that it still seems to be working.  what should be not working now?

Re: anyone know what failed with this?

What is displayed when you click on the "Show Details" button? Here is some documentation on Ubuntu's apport program and how to find more information about any specific crash.

Re: anyone know what failed with this?

that document shows a pop-up that has a "Show Details" button.  however, i have gotten quite a number of such pop-ups without a "Show Details" button.  a lot of them have popped up before i ran any Xfce stuff and everything was Unity.  Xfce did change the format of these pop-ups.

Re: anyone know what failed with this?

There might be more info in /var/crash. As for the xfdesktop one, if you leave the "Send error report" checkbox clicked, a report is sent to ubuntu's error tracking system.

/var/crash is empty.  the directory exists.

According to the ubuntu wiki entry above, it would produce a crash file in /var/crash. Not sure why that doesn't happen for you.

Re: anyone know what failed with this?

i looked at /var/crash the day after.  there has been at least one reboot.  i wonder if there is reboot code cleaning that out.  i do remember clicking on "leave closed".  i don't know what eventually cleans up files and/or sends reports.  does it send by email?  IMHO, there should be a tracking system running at where they get sent to, and a collection of tracking numbers here.
