Desktop setting change

I updated to xfce-4.14. Desktop xfce4-desktop-4.14.1, and panel: xfce4-panel-4.14.1. I have no installed theme, am using the Raleigh style. When choosing a background image color: Transparent used to mean the next selection overlay-ed the current background. This allowed a nice look with images that did not display well when stretched, I.e. choose stretched and then scaled. Now transparent means you see a white background.  Boo I say with my 27" monitor about half the backgrounds I like are no longer usable.

Is there a way to configure back to transparent meaning what was there before stays there?

The GTK2 default fallback style is Raleigh. The GTK3 default fallback style is Adwaita. Since xfce4-panel 4.14 is based on GTK3, it will use the Adwaita style.

If you are referring to the panel background, you can still set it to be transparent.

Re: Desktop setting change

The link below show what happens with a transparent background choosing scaled over streached. Used to work.

Sorry for the absolute link, I could not get the post syntax to work

Re: Desktop setting change

I've never used the transparent option. What are you expecting to see in the left and right bands instead of white?

Re: Desktop setting change

What used to happen (last 5+ years??) was if you selected stretched and then scaled the boarders were from the stretched display and the center (whats not white) displayed the scaled version of the image. Depending on the size and resolution of the image there were sever combinations that would give a high quality background in cases where the stretched image was either low quality or distorted.

Maybe I am the only one who knew/used this?? If so sucks to be me wink

Re: Desktop setting change

Think the desktop folk would accept this as a PR?

If the functionality has changed, then you should file a bug report.

Also have a read through this thread for a potential workaround solution to this problem.

Re: Desktop setting change

Thank you. The function I liked was removed with bug #10887. This "fix' is not necessary as the display provided by the fix can be achieved by selecting solid white as a color. Thus the 'fix' adds nothing and removes something at least one guy found useful.
