xfwm4 window manager crashing after upgrade to 19.10

After upgrading from Xubuntu 19.04 to 19.10, my xfwm4 crashes continually.  I have a running desktop but no panel and no window manager.  This has currently made the system almost unusable.  There was a log report:

Jan 12 20:22:38 dymaxion kernel: [   54.589712] traps:
    xfwm4[5044] trap int3 ip:7fc4d1afb8e5 sp:7fff265927e0 error:0
    in libglib-2.0.so.0.6200.1[7fc4d1ac0000+83000]

indicating that libglib-2.0.so.0.6200.1 is involved.  the packages for libglib and xfwm4 have been reinstalled with no improvement.

If anyone has suggestions as to what to do next, I would love to discuss them.  Thanks

BTW, I've reported this as a bug.  Look here for more details.

Re: xfwm4 window manager crashing after upgrade to 19.10

I'm not getting any quick resolution to this problem and I need to bring this system back online as soon as possible.  I have an Nvidia K4000 graphic card driving two monitors and have been using the nvidia-driver-### packages for years.  The current xfwm4 crashing problem appears to be due to an interaction between the Nvidia drivers and the new xfwm4 code.  (See bug report for details.)

During my testing I did temporarily switch to the default X.Org X server Nouveau driver package and I did get the window manager running.  However, the screen setup was the wrong scale and many things were off.  It appears as though this driver was not paying attention to its own /etc/X11/xorg.conf file which is surprising.

My question before switching over and then performing a lot of reconfiguration: Is anyone using this driver successfully.  Are there any limitations you are aware of?  Does anyone use a dual-monitor configuration with independent desktops on each monitor?  Are there separate config files used for this driver?  Thanks for any insights you can offer to help me avoid traps in going this route.

Re: xfwm4 window manager crashing after upgrade to 19.10

Following up:

The xfwm4 crashing problem has to do with defining more than one independent screen in the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file.  This is a problem observed by at least one other person.  By commenting out the second screen in the ServerLayout section, it was possible to get the system running using the Nvidia drivers.  Apparently this bug was also causing audio output to fail for unknown reasons.  After the graphics problem was rectified, proper sound operation was once again also restored.

I hope this information helps others experiencing this problem.  Follow this issue at:

Re: xfwm4 window manager crashing after upgrade to 19.10

Same issue here.
I have 3 monitors.
I selected the one that needs to be the primary.
After applying, Display crashed. Wouldn't open again even after reboot.
As cjsmall points out in the bugreport "Screen-1 was an exact mirror of Screen-0 rather than an independent monitor" - same here. IE: can not interact with anything, it is just a display.
I was to edit the  /etc/X11/xorg.conf file as per cjsmall says but there isn't such file.
Anybody knows where the config file is this week?
Thanks.

Follow up:
Xubuntu 18.04.4
This happens when one desktop is rotated.
It happens every time on booting.
However, if one SUSPENDS then wakes up the computer, the problem goes away. IE: there is no more 'mirrored' desktop, the second desktop is now fully interactive and the rotated desktop is as it should be.
The problem re-occurs after booting.

Anybody has  any idea, how to fix this?
