Laptops and most new monitors are "widescreen," using a 16:9 ratio instead of 4:3. Since laptops are small, widescreen is really shortscreen, I keep running out of vertical space. I miss 4:3.
You can easily move the taskbar from the bottom of the screen to either the left or right edges. This helps with making the most out of vertical space. I also miss 4:3 when I'm doing anything like word processing, but otherwise 16:9 works so much better.
