No panels?!

Hey.  I'm running Xubuntu (Fiesty) and when i boot it up as a live CD, I get to the desktop.   I see my mouse, icons, and i can see the backround but i don't see any panels!  No panels above or below.  Will scaling down my resolution fix the problem or is there something else?

Is the xfce4-panel application running (pgrep xfce4-panel)? If not: Alt+F2 for the run dialog, type xfce4-panel and click run.
