Mixer plugin doesn't load?

Hi all,

this is my first experience with xfce, and i just loooove it! my pc never worked as fast as it does now!

just one problem, when i try to add the volume control plugin to my panel, it just doesn't show up  :?
Any ideas which may be the reason for my problem?

thanks in advance!
Drazgo

EDIT: I just tried running xfce4-panel from terminal, and when i tried adding the plugin, this error showed up:

The program 'xfce4-mixer-plugin' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAccess (attempt to access private resource denied)'.
  (Details: serial 204 error_code 10 request_code 33 minor_code 0)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
   that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
   To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
   option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
   backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

Looks to me like a problem with permissions. What username is the window manager running under? Does that user have access to use the sound devices and the volume settings (alsamixer?).

How can I find it out? I've got the same problem. But I can change the volume, if I run xfce4-mixer. But mixer plugin is not able to stay on panel. It is shown for a while (half a second) and than it disappears .
