Trouble with creating new panel at bottom

Recently I let a younger sibling use my installation of Xubuntu 8.04 and after using it, I noticed all the panel items were messed around a lot. So I say easy and delete all the panel items and click Add New panel item, but when I add them, it adds them to right side of the panel and not the left, this is quite an inconvenience due having used this for over a year.
Do any of you have any suggestions to get the panel items to move back to the left side

Add a new separator then right click --> "Properties" and choose "Expanding empty space".
