I have been having issues with the panel since 4.6.1.
Basically, if I shut down my machine form the logoff applet, the next time the system boots it sawns between 6-15 individual sessions of panel with associated plug-ins. If I do a killall panel, every session restarts. I need to open taskmanager and individually kill off each panel till there is one left, then I kill it off, it restarts and everything is fine. Notification space is correct and the panel is responsive. Took me a while to figure out that several sessions of panel is what was causing my panel to be non-responsive. If, however; I log out from xcfe4, su and then shutdown, I don't have this problem. It 'seems' shutting down from the xfce4 panel does not cleanly exit xcfe4.

I have tried deleting everything in the .config/xcfe4 directory and this fixes things for 1 reboot, then it all starts again. This is not a major issue since I have a work around but maybe its something the devs need to keep in mind for the next release.

Cheers,
John

Re: [Solved] Strange panel behavior

ok, got it fixed.....

You must NOT have "save session for future logins" set and have xfce4-panel and any plugins set for startup under "session and startup", else you get mulitple panels starting up,

I guess panel does not check if its already running.

SOlutions:
uncheck the box for xfce4-panel under "sessions and startup" and any plugins if you have "Save session for future logins" set, and the problem goes away.

Cheers,
John
