Thunar and open/save : how to prevent it listing unmounted partitions?

Thunar and the file save/open dialog boxes list my unmounted partitions and also make them available. Even if those partitions that are not listed in my fstab and if they are, they are set as "noauto". These are partitions that belong to other installs, a backup disk that is only mounted when needed and /boot. I prefer those being invisible to the desktop unless explicitly mounted.

Can you tell XFCE somehow that not mounted partitions should never be listed?

The Thunar issue is solved by switching to Xfe. Now still the open/save dialog.

The open/save dialog is provided by GTK+ so we unfortunately can't do anything for that on the Xfce side.

Wow, that's bad. Isn't there some gtk+ config file that might help? I'm not into gtk to be honest this is the first desktop using it that I installed. But if there is no way around it is a dealbreaker.

Strange as well because I did had some gtk apps on KDE (gimp being the most obvious) and never saw this there.

Re: Thunar and open/save : how to prevent it listing unmounted partitions?

you have not mentioned what linux you are running or version of the xfce / thunar
if you have installed all plugins for thunar
thunar config can be done live in thunar itself rightclick on those folders and see if it says remove shortcut
hope this may help if you have not already tried this.
my version of thunar 1.2.1 on xfce4-4.8.2 panel

Re: Thunar and open/save : how to prevent it listing unmounted partitions?

Didn't mentioned those versions as I tought it would have been a config setting because both Thunar and the open/save dialog do the same thing.

Versions are:
- Gentoo 2.6.36-r5
- Thunar 1.2.0
- xfce-dev-tools 4.8.0
- gtk-engines-xfce 2.8.0
- libxfce4ui 4.8.0
- libxfce4util 4.8.1
- libxfcegui4 4.8.0
- xfce-utils 4.8.0
- xfce4-panel 4.8.0
- xfce-session, -settings, -sensors-plugin all 4.8.0

Anyway, right clicking on them in Thunar only gives the options to mount or eject. Which is silly because I can access unmounted filesystems!

EDIT: added xfce versions

Re: Thunar and open/save : how to prevent it listing unmounted partitions?

http://ompldr.org/vN25lcA/Screenshot.png

i have same kernel and xfce versions as yours in my gentoo install

though it is shown currently loged in gnome session thunar behaves same in xfce,kde-3.5,gnomeand icewm
right click send to sidepanel makes the short cut
right click side panel shortcut remove option.
i mount with fstab in /mnt not in /media , the automount is not working somehow.
i mount with mount -a command
even after unmounting the shortcut remains untill we remove
probably you may be having these shortcuts
but it does not show options for mount/eject in my case
lot of experimentation is necessary it seems sad

Re: Thunar and open/save : how to prevent it listing unmounted partitions?

Sorry guys, I'm giving it up, too many problems:
- this listing and accessing unmounted partitions
- not using single click to open in the open/save dialog when this is selected
- opera just not working as the mouseclicks are getting messed up somehow (left-handed mouse, single click to open, focus follows mouse strictly) After a few clicks it doesn't know left click from richt click anymore and I have to close opera
- default directories starting with majuscule that cannot be changed

Honestly otherwise it is a great experience, fast and neat but those small thing that cannot be changed do it for me. I'm not going to uninstall it and will try it out further from time to time but I'm going to somewhere else.
