Menu is now alphabetically sorted but I dont know why.

Hi All.

Firstly I want to say I love xfce4 and have been using it for years, but something strange happened this week.

When I logged into xfce my start menu + right click on desktop menu have become alphabetically sorted.   I checked the menu.xml files and they all are the same.  I checked against my backup files.

I'm using Xfce 4.6 (4.6.2) on Ubuntu.   

So my menu now has the Graphics, Help, Logout then Multimedia in the middle of the menu (in that order) where the logout and help used to be at the very bottom.

Is there some setting somewhere which I need to change?

I have no idea how this has become broken, I did login to a Gnome desktop session, but I have done that many times before too.

I hope someone can help me.

Ok.  I have now uninstalled XFCE + all dependencies and reinstalled.

I have removed all xfce customisations in my home directory too.

Its still sorting alphabetically.   This is getting really annoying.

The /etc/xdg/menus/xfce-applications.menu still looks good, the layout clearly says Terminal and Run should be at the top not at the botom.

Interesting.  So far as I know, the XFCE menu entries between Settings and Help have always been in alphabetical order.  Even though XFCE has been on my Mythbuntu box for almost three years, I've only switched over to XFCE as my default desktop since late last year so the ordering could have been different in the past.

The /etc/xdg/xfce-applications.menu says that term, file + browser should be before settings and help about and logout at the bottom.   But these are now merged in with everything else.

The strange thing is that the Settings menu is always at the top of the menu, but all the entries are then after the separator and alphabetically sorted.

No I deleted
~/.config/menus
and I deleted a directory from .cache too, but I forget what that was called exactly.

Ok, I just copied
cp -v /etc/xdg/menus/xfce-applications.menu ~/.config/menus
and did a
xfdesktop --reload
now the menu on the start menu is correct.  What the hell, the files are identical.

Ok.  I'm even more confused.

If I remove the ~/.config/menus directory again and reload its back to alphabetically sorted.

I am experiencing same problem with XFCE 4.8.0 (running linux mint). XFCE is not following layout definition in /etc/xdg/menus/xfce-applications.menu, but instead is being sorted alphabetically.

Tried:

- removing ~/.config/menus - did not help
- copying /etc/xdg/menus/xfce-applications.menu to ~/.config/menus (with xfdesktop --reload afterwards) - did not help
