[Solved] Switching keyboard layouts with xfce4-kbd-plugin 0.7.0

Hi!

I've just upgraded my Debian installation to xfce4 4.10.1, and that comes with xfce4-kbd-plugin.  The old version (0.5.4.3 of the plugin, 4.8.3 of xfce4 itself) allowed me to set a shortcut for changing the keyboard layout.  But the new version does not offer this: the "Keyboard settings" menu, accessed from the plugin's flag/language abbreviation just brings me to the same menu as the Applications Menu -> Settings -> Keyboard, with three tabs: Behaviour, Application Shortcuts, Layout.  And the Layout tab now only offers "Use system defaults", Keyboard Model and Keyboard Layout sections, no "Change layout option" or "Compose key position".  Where has the applet's menu gone?  It is a sad loss and very annoying when I want to quickly switch between languages :-(

Help much appreciated!

Thanks,

Julian

Re: [Solved] Switching keyboard layouts with xfce4-kbd-plugin 0.7.0

I am not sure why you have that version with Xfce 4.10 since 0.7 is a development version. The one I have is 0.5.4. Also you should read this

http://mail.xfce.org/pipermail/xfce-ann … 00272.html

And specially this:

* New version 0.7.0 - to be used with xfce4-settings 4.11 or later;
      do *not* use this version with XFCE 4.8 or 4.10, it won't work!
    * This is a fairly major rework - keyboard layouts are now configured
      through xfce4-keyboard-settings and managed by xfsettingsd;
      xkb-plugin only manages per window/application layout prefs
      and just acts as a layout indicator otherwise

Thanks for this pointer - I'll downgrade.  I'm reporting this as a serious bug to Debian.
