xubuntu opinions

Shortly speaking, I moved from ubuntu to xubuntu when things started to become "weird"...
Right now I'm fine with it, but I'm fearing that ubuntu plans will damage their derivatives (and they won't care since they have other plans).

Tried different distros, but I still overall like xubuntu. It's like "nice things from ubuntu without crazy stuff" , but I'm not sure if it will last for long...

Re: xubuntu opinions

My sister uses Ubuntu, and I helped her migrate to Xfce because the Unity DE and Parkinson's don't go well together.  (I prefer Fedora, but I put her on Ubuntu because all she needs is something that Just Works.)  The only difference between Ubuntu, Xubuntu, Kubuntu and whatever other versions they have is the DE.  Under the hood, it's all the same as far as I can see.

Any advice in this post is worth exactly what you paid for it.

Re: xubuntu opinions

If you take a look at the tree of distributions, you can see that Xubuntu is on a different branch and therefore independent from Ubuntu. Whatever is happening with Ubuntu, Xubuntu won't be affected by it.
A good example is the support period. Ubuntu 12.04 has a support period of 5 years, Xubuntu on the other hand, has 3 years...

But as Sideburns mentioned, the distributions that came out of Ubuntu are all the same. The only difference between them is the DE (Desktop Environment).
What they have in common, I think are the repositories.

Re: xubuntu opinions

Wait for the Mint edition to be polished. That can use the Ubuntu repositories without all the crap.
