[Solved] Minor issue with desktop launchers

I have both a desktop and a laptop running Xfce 4.10 and both recently upgraded to Fedora 19.  In both cases, the first time I try to use a desktop launcher, other than to open Thunar, I get a popup box telling me that the launcher is in an insecure location and not marked as executable.  It gives me the options of Execute anyway, Mark as executable or cancel.  Is this normal?  If not, is there a quick fix?

Re: [Solved] Minor issue with desktop launchers

Here, I believe, is the bug report (https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5012) and commit (http://mail.xfce.org/pipermail/xfce4-co … 37258.html) that brought in the security checking that leads to this warning message. However, I'm not sure why you are getting the warning message.

According to these links, a security message is displayed if:
- launcher is not a .desktop file
- content type is not application/x-desktop
- desktop file is not in either an XDG location or not marked executable

EDIT: Both of my Xfce systems (Xubuntu & Arch) have the panel config desktop files in $HOME/.config/xfce4/panel and they are not executable. And I don't see the warning message. Can you post back the contents of one of the panel launcher desktop files from $HOME/.config/xfce4/panel?

Re: [Solved] Minor issue with desktop launchers

The launchers are all .desktop files, stored in ~/Desktop.  If all it takes is marking them as executable, I can take a few seconds to do that.  As there aren't any launchers that I didn't create myself, a simple chmod will do.

Re: [Solved] Minor issue with desktop launchers

I just learned that I need root access to mount a USB flash drive on my Xfce desktop, but not the laptop.  Is this part of the same issue, or something to take up with Fedora?

Re: [Solved] Minor issue with desktop launchers

I don't believe the problems are related. Have a look to see if the users from both systems are in the same groups.

Re: [Solved] Minor issue with desktop launchers

I'm the only user of either computer and I've neither played around with groups nor put myself in wheel on either of them.
