Work is _always_ getting in the way!

For those still running the stable 4.10, there will be a boat-load of changes (enhancements and bug fixes).

Out of curiosity, how do you see xfwm4 supporting/using GTK3?

ANNOUNCE: gtk-xfce-engine 2.9.1 released

What is gtk-xfce-engine?
========================

Website:
  http://www.xfce.org

Release notes for 2.9.1
=======================
[Please note that this is a development release.]

- Changed rendering of the spinner
- Correctly match gtk-tooltip widgets (bug #8494)

For Xfce 4.12 the gtk-xfce-engine will be gtk2 only.
The later versions of gtk3 don't support a theme engine anymore.
There are gtk2/gtk3 compatible themes out there as well as the default
theme of gtk3 has improved.
Cause of the previous statments as well as maintainance reasons, the
gtk3 themes have been dropped.

The GTK3 theme engine has been dropped from Xfce (mostly because GTK3 has dropped support for theme engines and relies on CSS for themeing [1]).

From https://mail.xfce.org/pipermail/xfce4-d … 31106.html [2]:

The decision has been made to go for 1 and a. As there is also decided not
to ship a default gtk3 theme.
The gtk-xfce-engine git repository has a new master branch called
master-gtk2. This is a branch from 2.9.0 with all the gtk2 changes from
master merge into this.
gtk-xfce-engine 2.9.1 has been released with these changes. And this can be
considered the release candidate for xfce 4.12.

References:
[1] https://mail.xfce.org/pipermail/xfce4-d … 31062.html
[2] https://mail.xfce.org/pipermail/xfce4-d … 31084.html

Note: Read both mailing list discussions to get a better idea of how the devs are planning to deal with GTK2/3 theme consistency.
(tl;dr - leaving it to theme developers, e.g. adwaita/greybird, to provide consistency)

Wait, What? instead of alt-tab i can now use dnd? How? I don't get it - sorry

>- Changed wireframe to cairo drawing when using the compositor

this also makes the wireframe mode unusable

- with all themes that use an active text color instead of an active backgound/selection color
- or for users that set a similar colored wallpaper/desktop color as the selection color: http://i.imgur.com/uSS2T3C.png

since gtk3 supports scaling this could be dropped

This bug report explains it. Basically, grab and hold a file, alt-tab+cycle to the app you want, and drop the file.

Newly committed bug fix that apparently fixes the "icons resetting/changing position" problem I read about a lot. Just synching now to see if it fixes the problem. I'm certain it would be helpful if anyone who can, can test this commit.

As always, continued thanks for your work here and in general. Have you used the new Whisker menu version? If so, can you tell whether or not it is now fully usable via the keyboard?
