Fedora XFCE Update Checker

I am not sure if something similar exists, I found a few older scripts, but I did not find anything which would fit my needs, so I wrote my own.

You can find it at https://github.com/skontar/update-checker.

Hopefully it is going to be useful to someone. It checks for security or all updates (your choice) and displays notification icon and shows notification when some are found.

Re: Fedora XFCE Update Checker

Fedora doesn't already have an update manager, lol?

EDIT: Thank you for contributing to linux!

Fedora does on some desktops but not with Xfce. You can do it with Yumex but it isn't easy and Yumex-dnf is still in development and a bit buggy.

Re: Fedora XFCE Update Checker

I don't understand. Fedora's update manager only works on some files? I thought that was just a Microsoft thing  .

Or do you just mean that newer versions of Xfce and its related files just aren't in Fedora's repositories? Or... IDK?

MDM

Re: Fedora XFCE Update Checker

I mean that the update checker is part of some desktops, Gnome and KDE have them and they link to packagekit. The other desktops don't include them with their spins. It is possible to do it with Yumex, the graphical front end to dnf, but it isn't an obvious option and Yumex for dnf is still buggy.

Xfce 4.12 has been in the repos since it was released and in Copr repos before that.

I'm not complaining as auto updates are something I disable on other desktops anyway. Besides Xfce users are smart enough to know to update regularly smile.
