Display allows only one Monitor or only mirror

Hello,
I have a problem with the xfce4-display-settings because I don't know since when.
I have a HP 355 G3 Laptop with Mint Linux 17.3 and XFCE4 Ver. 4.12
Now I can't switch between 2 monitors because the display-settings are looking as this picture

For a test, I do the Linux Mint Live on a USB-Stick and the result is in the same condition.

I think there is a little mistake in any configuration that I have change knowingly.
I'm looking a whole day for a solution, but I don't get a satisfaction.

Re: Display allows only one Monitor or only mirror

If the display is correct when running Live but not when installed using exactly the same hardware and connections, then one solution might be to
--boot to the LiveUSB
--navigate to /etc/X11/
--copy its xorg.conf.

Then, still running live,
--navigate over to the host machine (you will need to have root access)
--paste the file in the same location.

If there is already a file called xorg.conf, then back that up first by renaming it to something like xorg.conf.BAK. Reboot to the host machine to see if the change takes effect.

Someone else may have a more elegant solution, but this one has worked for many of our users in a similar situation.

MX-23 (based on Debian Stable) with our flagship Xfce 4.18.

Re: Display allows only one Monitor or only mirror

Thanks for the answering, but it not the solution.

I don't have a xorg.conf on the USB-Stich version an similar on the laptop HD.
I have root access.

By looking on my PC and Server the is "xorg.conf" neither.
I had searched the system by "find / -iname "xorg.conf" without any results.

You can create one. A quick web search of "create xorg.conf" (sans quotation marks) gave me 196,000 results.

Re: Display allows only one Monitor or only mirror

Thx but the system kill my xorg.conf after restart.
It looks like xorg.conf.06012016
I think it's better to set up new
