Thunar alternative until bug fixes

With these annoying bugs on Thunar with copy/moving/renaming/dragging and dropping crashes which file manager are you using until this get solved?

I'm thinking to use Nemo, does it need too much dependency?

Re: Thunar alternative until bug fixes

$ apt-cache rdepends nemo
nemo
Reverse Depends:
  cinnamon
  nemo-fileroller
  nemo-data
  cinnamon-core
$ apt-cache rdepends cinnamon
cinnamon
Reverse Depends:
  libcjs0
  cardapio-cinnamon
  libmuffin0
  cinnamon-desktop-data
  cinnamon-common
  cinnamon-dbg
  cinnamon-core
  cinnamon-common

Doesn't seem too much. I like Double Commander as a lightweight alternative.

Re: Thunar alternative until bug fixes

What do you think fits better on XFCE: Nemo or Caja? I'm in doubt between these two.

I really like Thunar but these bugs are driving me crazy.

Re: Thunar alternative until bug fixes

I don't know, I have hardly used any of them, but I'd be a bit wary of using such desktop-dependent apps as Caja or Nemo, (that's why I pointed you to Doublecmd).

These damm Thunar bugs don't affect everyone equally, and I'm still using it without many troubles, plus they're being worked on and close to resolution, I think.

On the other hand, I'm using Xubuntu, maybe you're using Mint? It is my understanding that both MATE and Cinnamon are closer to Mint, so the substitution might be smooth for you, let's hope someone with a clearer opinion comes around...

Re: Thunar alternative until bug fixes

Some of our users have substituted SpaceFM, which is GTK+ based and thus fits in well with Xfce. I like it a lot myself (for its twin panes, if nothing else) but prefer to stick to Thunar.

MX-23 (based on Debian Stable) with our flagship Xfce 4.18.

Ah, just tried SpaceFM, installed with minimal dependencies, looks great at first glance, I like it, thanks!

Nah. I'm on Xubuntu too. I don't think these bugs were solved. And I think they gonna take a long time until get solved, they are present since 2015.

I don't know if double commander is for me. Maybe I install it and use just to move files, its where Thunar always crash.

Re: Thunar alternative until bug fixes

kafran  What version of Xubuntu are you using?

  lsb_release -a

I am using 16.04.1 LTS

I had problems with Xubuntu with different version numbers,  some worked with my hardware, some didn't.   I also seem to find the Linux mint 17.3 xfce and 18 works ok.   There is strange bug if you have multiple users.   When you log out of Linux mint Xfce it freezes sometimes, you have to hard boot the computer.  Xubuntu is missing the boot up image wallpaper before the log-in screen, when restarting the computer the wallpaper it shows.    I am referring to the wallpaper the shows a circle rotating.  I haven't asked for help because all of this is tolerable except for the Linux mint xfce logout issue.

Around the time when the beta for the Xfce flavor of Mint 18 was released, I asked Clem if he was going to hold back Thunar due to reports of many users finding issues in newer versions, or if he was going to apply one of the patches that were submitted. If I remember correctly, he stated at the time that he would be using a patched version for Mint 18 Xfce - so, yes, Thunar should be crash-free in Mint 18. I do not know how solid that is, though.
