Copy isn't permitted in all windows

I can copy (and later paste) text from a window like a terminal or web browser. But, if I am using (for example) the xfce settings manager none of the text appears to be copyable. In lots of items I can press my left mouse button and highlight an area. But, the text in the area never seems to make it into the copy buffer.

What am I missing?

Re: Copy isn't permitted in all windows

How are you trying to copy? In other words, after highlighting the text, do you press CTRL-C?

Re: Copy isn't permitted in all windows

Normally I just need to highlight and the selected text appears in my clipboard. Or, I can highlight (using the left mouse button) and then I can paste this using the middle button. That works in a browser, terminal and many applications.

This whole copy/paste stuff is a bit of a mystery to me (I've only been doing *nux for about 20 years ... so what do I know!

But, I just discovered that if I right-click and select paste from the menu I get some text I copied a few days ago. Just how many buffers are there?

Still no luck doing a copy from something like the xfce4 settings manager.
