Debian 9, Gnome -> Xfce

I seem to be having some troubles with permissions.

For example, I can't really do anything, unless I am logged in as root.

I read about the issues, and have tried the following:
1. adding the xdm login manager.
2. trying the lightdm login manager.
3. following the instruction from the debian wiki on the topic, installed libpam-ck-connector, and added this line:
session   optional  pam_loginuid.so in front of this line:
pam_ck_connector.so
in the following file: /etc/pam.d/common-session
4. add in file ~/.xsession (created the file), then added:
exec ck-launch-session startxfce4

Had installed via: sudo apt-get install task-xfce-desktop

Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have a pretty slow server, and would like to use Xfce instead of Gnome.

EDIT:

It took me a couple hours to figure it out:
I installed:
sudo apt-get install policykit-1-gnome

And, it solved my problem.
