[Solved] Graphical user manager for Xfce

As a long time Fedora user I am a bit perplexed at the demise of system-config-users which is missing in Fedora 31.  Some GUIs (KDE & MATE for example) provide their own graphical user manager.

Would it be possible to roadmap something similar into Xfce?

A fasttrack may be to adopt system-config-users that has traditionally been very functional under Xfce.  Apparently it no longer builds against Fedora and the maintainers are not addressing the issue, so the package has been dropped.

Re: [Solved] Graphical user manager for Xfce

In Xubuntu 18.04 I've got users-admin preinstalled; it comes from gnome-system-tools, which provides the users-admin binary, in addition to network-admin, shares-admin and time-admin. Works fine, and integrates in the Xfce settings menu.

Isn't it in the repos for your distro?

Thanks.  Not by that name.  That utility looks old school GNOME 2 (from back when GNOME was good).

I have thought about hijacking a utility from a GUI that has one but the problem is often that there are an unreasonable number of dependencies and sometimes other stuff gets dragged in that you really don't want.  I'll have a look at possibly hijacking the one from MATE.

If I had the time to put into it I would look at fixing system-config-users.

Well that was a big surprise, mate-user-admin had a payload in Xfce of less that 2MBytes.  Problem solved.

Cool! You can edit the title, adding a [SOLVED] tag, if you will.

OK done.

I should add a quick note that I also use engrampa from MATE (and uninstall xarchiver) so I already have some MATE components (installing engrampa drags in Caja too), and that may have contributed to the low install payload of mate-user-admin.

On my F30 system which didn't have any Mate packages installed (AFAIK) it pulled in 3 packages for a total of 4.8 Mbytes. Good result.
