spurious screen blank after signon

After opening the laptop lid and signing in, the screen blanks once after a delay, even
though the computer is in use.

Only xfce4-screensaver is running.
Neither light-locker or xscreensaver are installed.

And running xfce4-power-manager --daemon --debug > /tmp/pm.debug 2>&1
laptop lid close, suspended, opened laptop lid and then later the screen blank happened.

Re: spurious screen blank after signon

I am also running into this same issue on Xubuntu 19.10, but in addition to the blank screen after a little bit of use, the lock screen is started in between. I'll post the same information as bll:

Re: spurious screen blank after signon

In both of these log sets, there is no entry showing the secondary screen blank. You can see the lid close and lid open event, and it seems to set everything properly.

Is there any information in any other log files like the journal (if using systemd) or the Xorg.0.log file?

Also, try disabling the screensaver to see if the problem replicates.

The last one is odd in that it is a duplicate entry.

Can you try disabling xfce4-screensaver and installing another screensaver (e.g. xscreensaver) to see if the problem persists?

Re: spurious screen blank after signon

I've removed xfce4-screensaver and installed xscreensaver. I've been using things for a while, a couple of lid closes and screen locks, but so far I haven't had any second screen locks or second screen blanks after a while.

Re: spurious screen blank after signon

Interesting. Perhaps a bug report against xfce4-screensaver is the next step (nothing in the list of existing bugs seems to be related to this one).

Out of curiosity, how long after the unlock before the second screen blank happens? Is this consistent? (Also found this.

Re: spurious screen blank after signon

It was pretty consistent with the second screen blank, probably 5 minutes between each one. What's the best information for me to include in the bug report? And that bug you linked on Launchpad sounds like the exact same issue.

Which is pretty much the difference between the two gkr-pam entries in your log file.

I would suggest you create a bug report at Xfce's Bugzilla Site for the xfce4-screensaver application. Give a general description of the problem and then put a link to this forum thread for more information.
