Original right-click desktop menu options gone, replaced by limited

The 'normal' XFCE right-click desktop popup menu on all my other desktops includes:

Create Launcher
Create URL Link
Create Folder
Create Document
----
Paste
----
Open Terminal Here
Find in this Folder
----
Arrange Desktop Icons
Desktop Settings
Properties
---
Applications

On one machine, for no apparent reason, thats gone, leaving:

New Folder
Open Terminal
Open Tilix Here
Paste
Organize Desktop by Name
Keep Aligned

I use the original menu quite a bit. If anyone knows how to restore it, much appreciated.
Update: original desktop right-click menu restored, but why it got lost not determined. Would like to know how to fix in future, if anyone knows. Thanks.

A couple of re-boots later, the original desktop-right-click menu is back. However, if anyone knows where to find the config file for that menu, I'd like to make note of it for future reference. (Thanks.)

This doesn't look like an Xfce menu. In all likelihood, your desktop was being managed by something other that xfdesktop (possibly nautilus, nemo, pcmanfm, etc).

Do you use an alternative file manager? If so, make sure that it is set not to manage the desktop.

Re: Original right-click desktop menu options gone, replaced by limited

Thanks Toz. I took some snapshots of the active processes while that alternate menu was up, so may be able to track down where it came from.
Is there a way for me to get a complete source locally from:

https://archive.xfce.org/src/

I tried doing a wget, and it doesn't appear to be returning any of the tarballs.
(I'll try GIT. Any alternative suggestions welcome.)

Try https://archive.xfce.org/xfce/4.14/

wget https://archive.xfce.org/xfce/4.14/fat_tarballs/xfce-4.14.tar.bz2

This will download everything. Individual packages located here.

Re: Original right-click desktop menu options gone, replaced by limited

I determined that a) the XFCE4 desktop was, indeed, being disconnected and replaced with a different one.

The cause: launching Gigolo, and connecting to a remote desktop, at which point
the current xfce4 desktop appears to be superseded (albeit still running) by gvfs.

[Thanks Toz, you called it correctly.]

The quick fix: disconnect gigolo, exit X & return via startx. If I come up with a
better solution, I'll post it, but not planning to work on the problem right away.

My guess is that when nautilus starts up, it takes over managing the desktop. I believe, if my notes are correct, that if you enter this command:

gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.background show-desktop-icons false

...it prevents that from happening.

Re: Original right-click desktop menu options gone, replaced by limited

Spot-on Toz. It worked exactly as you expected.

What a pleasure to get this kind of support for such a critical resource, i.e., XFCE.
Thanks so much.
Ted in Portland, Oregon.

FYI: I'm still using XUbuntu 16.04 on all my desktops.
