Title Bar Missing on new install (xfce4 + ubuntu 20.04 + Raspi 4)

As title suggests, I've installed xfce4 on ubuntu 20.04 on Raspi 4.
Title bar is missing. Is there a way to enable it?

Is xfwm4 running?

ps -ef | grep xfwm4

If not, try running it manually:

xfwm4

...and see what happens.

Yes, xfwm4 is running for the user who's logged in.

Try restarting it:

xfwm4 --replace

Which Window Manager theme are you using?

Can you post a screenshot?

Re: Title Bar Missing on new install (xfce4 + ubuntu 20.04 + Raspi 4)

I can't run  xfwm4 --replace as i can't run the terminal. [Applications-> Terminal Emulator] does not work, nor does byobu. Tried to use Thunar and from there open an terminal. It doesn't open either.

I tried doing it in a remote ssh session, but obviously it says it can't open display.

For what it's worth, this is inside a VNC session. I've replaced stock xstartup generated by vnc with following
#!/bin/bash
xrdb $HOME/.Xresources
startxfce4 &

Sorry I've been unable to figure out how to post screenshot. Looks I have to post it elsewhere and place link here.

Theme is 'Daloa'

Thanks. It appears to be a bug - that was fixed. Do you know how to get that fix?

Do you also think it affects xRDP, because, it too refuses to work on xfce4.? xsession logs say the disconnection was initiated by the client soon after logging in.

It was released as part of xfwm 4.14.2. You'll have to check with the xubuntu development team to see when it might get added to the repositories.

xrdp works for me with a couple of tweaks. First:

dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg-legacy

...and choose "anybody". Then create the file ~/.xsession and add the following content:

env -u SESSION_MANAGER -u DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS xfce4-session

...then restart the service:

sudo service xrdp restart

If you get a block cursor showing, then just set "new_cursors" to false in /etc/xrdp/xrdp.ini and restart the service again.

Re: Title Bar Missing on new install (xfce4 + ubuntu 20.04 + Raspi 4)

Thanks ToZ. Especially the xRDP tweak works like charm. I can even see Title Bars.

For last 2-3 months I've been trying out different DEs, each time appreciating some features and at the same time ruing over some things not working correctly, or not working at all. Though I am well versed in Linux, I am novice when it comes to xorg.

Is there some type of document that explains how / when x starts, and what we should use in xstartup/xsession? For instance from multi-user.target, can I start X? If yes how to start it? When to use a session manager, how it works in conjunction with Window Manager? I've spent some time looking into excellent arch wiki. But looks like I've some way to go.
Thanks in advance for any pointer in right direction.

Unfortunately, other than the Arch wiki, I am unaware of any other documentation for this topic. Perhaps someone else has a source they can post?
