Windows flashing white when being redrawn, switching workspaces

Hi all, when I switch workspaces my windows are being redrawn which causes them to flash white.  Very rough on the eyes.  I've Googled this and have found a number of suggestions about turning the compositor off and on, and trying to change some graphics options.

I have a 6th Gen X1 Carbon which has an Intel graphics chipset.

Here is my graphics config:

Section "Device"
   Identifier "Intel Graphics"
   Driver "intel"
   Option "TripleBuffer" "true"
   Option "DRI" "false"
   Option "AccelMethod" "uxa"
   Option "TearFree" "true"
EndSection

Please let me know when else I can share to help!

Re: Windows flashing white when being redrawn, switching workspaces

Hello and welcome.

Which distro and version of Xfce are you running?

Have you tried using the modesetting driver instead of the intel driver (i.e. uninstall xf86-video-intel and use the built in driver)? If so, does it make a difference?

Re: Windows flashing white when being redrawn, switching workspaces

Thanks for the pointer, ToZ.  I am running Debian 10.7 and xfce 4.12

Here is some more info:

It looks like the intel driver is being used, but I don't seem to have xf86-video-intel installed.  Going to try removing the intel xorg config and see if that stops it from loading.

Re: Windows flashing white when being redrawn, switching workspaces

One more issue related to this.  After switching to the modesetting driver I get a lot of tearing watching videos and scrolling. I tried setting compositing on, synchronizing to vblank, no luck.  Would greatly appreciate any help again.
