xfce4-panel not working after install

Hi everyone,

I've tried to compile everything on my own just for fun and I'm having a weird problem with xfce4-panel. I've tried to recompile more or less everything, thought this might be the problem but I'm starting to have some doubt.

Once XFCE is started, here is the output of : PANEL_DEBUG=1 xfce4-panel

The program 'wrapper-1.0' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'.
  (Details: serial 196 error_code 8 request_code 62 minor_code 0)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

xfce4-panel(systray): unregistered manager

Fun fact, it's working if I'm starting it with a sudo : sudo PANEL_DEBUG=1 xfce4-panel

Even funnier fact, when I start XFCE as a root directly, I got the same BadMatch error and the xfce4-panel unable to start (I'm starting to get bald scratching my head on that).

Everything else seems to be quite unstable, I got the same message once in a while with things like settings-manager and so on, but sometimes it works.

I don't think it's a bug as the message is claiming since I'm running the same version on many other Linux, the most likely is I'm the problem, somewhere in the building/configuring I have probably failed.

I'm running out of ideas to find what's wrong and what the problem could possibly be, so any "what's the output of this" and "have a look there" is very welcome !

Edit : I forgot to mention, I've tried the font install to fix the problem, it's not working any better.

Thanks.
