Is Thunar a mandatory dependency of xfdesktop?
Hey there!
On Arch Linux the `xfdesktop` package depends on `thunar`. Thus I am wondering if it is a hard dependency.
If one uses another file manager, e.g. `nautilus`, it would be nice to be able to have `thunar` uninstalled/not on the system.
As of now I am already using `thunar` together with XFCE4 for some time and am really happy with it.

Thunar libraries are used to manage the icons (an the actions performed against them - e.g. custom actions) on the desktop.

at least some distros, such as Ubuntu, like to separate libraries from applications and package them separately. they do achieve that for some, if not most, packages. the application name is not always part of the library package name. just name the packages you need when installing and needed dependencies should get included. you may get more. to do better, you'll probably need to install from source and separate things, yourself. if you succeed, contact your distro's packaging manager.

Thanks for your replys.
I only had the fear that thunar is only included so that XFCE cannot be installed completely without a file manager. But since apparently libraries from thunar are needed, it's ok for me if thunar is installed as well - even if I use nautilus.
Of course, it would be desirable to be able to install only the necessary libraries. But depending on how closely thunar and xfdesktop are interwoven, it may well not be worth the effort. And I have neither the time nor the experience to try this myself from the source files
