Display Profile turns second display off after a few seconds

Hi Guys,

I have the following problem with my Laptop. Whenever I connect it to my external monitor via HDMI the saved profile gets activated correctly and I can see the extended desktop on my external monitor. However this lasts only for about 6-7 seconds. After this time the external monitor gets turned off and I have to activate the profile by hand using die Display Settings GUI. After this it works as expected till I have to reconnect my external Monitor - then the same behaviour occurs.

Maybe this helps understanding my issue:

$ xfconf-query -c displays -mv
Start monitoring channel "displays":
### Here i Connect the HDMI Cable and the Second Monitor gets activated and Desktop is extended
set: /Default/DP2-2/Active (false)
set: /ActiveProfile (5f8c50d1acf7cdb6d4ee1976a40bea62736a6ceb)
set: /Default/eDP1/Position/X (1920)
set: /Default/DP2-2/Active (true)
### After about 6sec. the Second Monitor gets deactivated - and I don't know why.
set: /Default/DP2-2/Active (false)
### Then i activate the profile via the xfce4-display-settings dialog
set: /Schemes/Apply (5f8c50d1acf7cdb6d4ee1976a40bea62736a6ceb)
reset: /Schemes/Apply
set: /Default/DP2-2/Active (true)
### Now it works as expected.

Is this a know issue? Does somebody know how to fix this?

Thanks!
John

Re: Display Profile turns second display off after a few seconds

Hello and welcome to the forum!

To me, it looks like there is some power management/idle mechanism kicking in. I have no idea how to fix it, though. I'd look through Power Manager and Screensaver settings.

Re: Display Profile turns second display off after a few seconds

Hey,
you were right I had some DPMS activated and configured in th 10-monitor.conf file which probably interferenced with the profile switching - Thanks for the hint!

Now output while switching monitors looks like this:

$ xfconf-query -c displays -mv
Start monitoring channel "displays":

set: /ActiveProfile (5f8c50d1acf7cdb6d4ee1976a40bea62736a6ceb) ## connect HDMI
set: /ActiveProfile (Default) ### disconnect HDMI
set: /ActiveProfile (5f8c50d1acf7cdb6d4ee1976a40bea62736a6ceb) ## reconnect HDMI

Re: Display Profile turns second display off after a few seconds

Hi,

sorry to bring this up but I had the same issue returned and I don't know why. Maybe its a timing issue with my Monitor - but for other WindowMangers this switch works so I'm trying to find out what is the issue with xfce4.

I disabled all power management (Xfce4 and xorg) and also deleted all my xfce4 config files to start with a fresh start - but this didn't help either.

Is there a way to find out / debug who is turning of my monitor display which I can see with xfconf-query?!

set: /Default/DP2-2/Active (false)

Thanks,
John
