desktop collapse

Dear users/developers,

Something happened with my xcfe gui: all trays and icons disappeared, see attached image.
I used to have an upper panel with time, date, notifications, etc, lower one for launching programs, etc.

Any idea how to bring them back? Restarting the laptop did not help :-(

Re: desktop collapse

Which distro and version of Xfce are you running?

Try manually running:

xfce4-panel

...to see if they come back.

If you have an ~/.xsession-errors file, can you post its content back here?

Re: desktop collapse

I am using fedora35 and xfce 4.16.3, no xsession error logs.

'xfce4-panel' - this magic worked, thank you very much!

Can you please let me know what was the origin of the problem?

Re: desktop collapse

Hard to tell without logs, but my guess would be bad sessions cache. To fix it properly to the following:
1. log out
2. Go to a text TTY to log in (Ctrl+Alt+F2)
3. log in
4. issue the following commands:

cd ~/.cache
rm -rf sessions
exit

5. Go back to display manager (most probably Ctrl+Alt+F7)
6. log in to Xfce desktop
