Mail watcher app

Hi,

I'm using the xfce4 mail watcher app but it's somewhat basic, e.g. there's a notification sound even when the mail count decreases (but no new mail), there's no popup notification with details of new emails and so on .

Any more sophisticated alternatives which work well with xfce?.

Thanks

Re: Mail watcher app

I've been using Mailnag for years now. Some distros still have it in their repository, some removed it, lots of info can be found online. Here is one of them: https://www.labsrc.com/automatic-webmai … -in-linux/
I love it because it's very simple, you get a popup and sound notification on new mails, no email client is needed such as Thunderbird. I believe it is not maintained anymore, but it still works just fine for me.

Re: Mail watcher app

mailnag has a notification plugin for xfce:
https://github.com/pulb/mailnag-messagingmenu-plugin

I've DL the source & compiled it but mailnag-config doesn't pickup the plugin.
Did you manage to get it installed?.

Re: Mail watcher app

No, I never did. I think Mailnag was really meant for Ubuntu-Gnome system which I never liked. I just simply accepted the way it worked in Xfce...I just needed a light app to notify new emails coming in and it does just that. I also noticed that coming back from "suspend" does not wake Mailnag up, you have to open it first then close it to make it work again. I contacted the dev (Ulbrich???) he was nice enough to respond, he told me that he does not maintain it anymore, and it was a "known bug". That plugin is not in the repositories anymore, probably because it does not work... I guess it used to be a very nice app 10 or so years ago, now we just get what we get. Maybe we should ask ToZ about it, he knows everything...
I also heard about Bubblemail, very similar to Mailnag, there is some (very little) info about it online. I looked into it once, it's written in Phyton, and seems way too difficult for me to deal with.
