Panel overrides bottom of fullsize windows

I consulted this thread https://forum.xfce.org/viewtopic.php?id=11400, however, it did not help in my case.

I have following monitor setup:

+-----+-----+
| 1 | 2 |
+-----+-----+
| 3 | 4 |
+-----+-----+

Screen 3 is my "primary" screen with a top and a bottom panel on it. None of this panels overrides the fullsize windows. On every of other screen, there is only one bottom panel. On screen 3, everything works great. However, on screens 1 and 2, the bottom panel overrides fullsize windows. I tied toggling the option "Don't reserve space on borders", however, the behaviour does not change. I also changed some other options, the position of the pannel, monitor resolution etc. hoping the panel would be "resetted", but nothing worked.

Is there some workaround for this issue? As to me, it seems to be a bug, does not it?

Re: Panel overrides bottom of fullsize windows

Hello and welcome.

What you are seeing is the result of a design decision. For the rationale, please refer to https://gitlab.xfce.org/xfce/xfwm4/-/issues/84 and https://gitlab.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-panel/-/issues/136.

As a workaround, is "Automatically hiding" the panel an option?

There is a good summation of the logic in https://gitlab.xfce.org/xfce/xfwm4/-/co … 6e1dc306c4:

When a window is fullscreen, it's placed on a layer above all the
others.

When a fullscreen window loses focus, however, xfwm4 will send that
window back to its original layer so that the other windows which may
have focus can be seen and not hidden underneath the fullscreen window.

Consider the scenario where if the app on screen 4 stayed fullscreen and you moved a window from screen 3 to screen 4. It would be hidden even though it had focus.

Re: Panel overrides bottom of fullsize windows

As to me, I cannot understand the relation between overriding the windows and permanently reserving some space for a panel. The issue is, that the panel on screens 1 as well as on screen 2 does not reserve space, so that any maximized window becomes "to large" so the panel then overrides it. Especially, on screens 3 and 4, everything works.

Would not be my preferred solution. However, my workaround for now is to move the panel to the top. There, the space for the panel gets reserved. Still not my favourite, but better then applications' buttons get hidden by a panel.
