Span Screen and Thunar Issue

Speaking of differences;

How come span screen is available and sometimes not?

The same with Devices, I can't get it to show in Thunar.

Any help? TIA

I've been wrestling with these two and searching for an answer for a while.

What is a spanning screen?

I don't know for sure but it seems to me that your question is about a very specific technical problem that has nothing to do with this subject and therefore will fit better in this forum:

Moving to a thread of its own.

@eight.bit.al:

1. Span Screens is a panel function that gives you the option to have the panel scan across multiple screens. For it to be available, you need to have at least 2 screens defined. Also check the panel versions to make sure they are similar.

2. Thunar devices is visible in your image. What do you mean by "can't get them to show"?

I thought it might have something to do with the way this distro had setup Xfce which would have been very much on topic.

@eight.bit.al:

1. Span Screens is a panel function

No, it's a wallpaper option in the Desktop dialog.

In the first image, it's not available. Sometimes it shows up, but mostly not.

Here it is on one of my computers; span is active and the option is shown in the Desktop dialog.
Display dialog is shown for information on screens.

(I reduced the image file size as best I could)
(right click - open in new tab)

Here it is on another computer. Span is active, but not listed in the Desktop dialog.
Display dialog is shown for information on screens.

active-not-shown.png

Most of the time when span is not active, it doesn't show in the Desktop dialog and I have to play with it until it does show; which sometimes takes trying and trying on several occasions.
(and it's not that I haven't scrolled down enough; there is nothing below zoomed)

2. Thunar devices is visible in your image. What do you mean by "can't get them to show"?

Deal with this in another post.

Thank you for your expertise and your time.

Re: Span Screen and Thunar Issue

Okay, I figured it out. If you call up the Desktop dialog from the primary screen/monitor,
one has the spanning option; any other screen/monitor, - nope.
