how to disable Thunar/xfdesktop from trying to access /home/.hidden

HI all,
i was wondering if it is possible to disable Xfdesktop, Thunar and other XFCE from trying to access to
"/home/.hidden" which is not exist and creates a lot of mounting errors/request to our Shared storage(nfs)
/home/USERNAME/.hidden is fine, not /home/.hidden

Thanks in Advance.

Re: how to disable Thunar/xfdesktop from trying to access /home/.hidden

I have never experienced that particular issue. I looked at /home using thunar and also from a terminal set to show hidden files. There is nothing there on my system.

A possible solution came to me; I don't know if it will work or not, but it may be worth trying.
  Create an empty file /home/.hidden
  Link /home/.hidden to /home/USERNAME/.hidden-files

If it works then you are good to go.
If it does not work, you can just delete /home/.hidden and be no worse off.

Do no harm.

Re: how to disable Thunar/xfdesktop from trying to access /home/.hidden

Hi,
Thanks for your response.

you would not see this mount attempt, unless you have some kind of system logs(messages)
in our case our share nfs storage.
so it is definitely trying to access /home/.hidden
you can check it out by running excellent observation tools(/bcc tools) - "opensnoop -x " on your latop/desktop.
you will see a quite often XFDESKTOP or thunar are trying to acess /home/.hidden.

also, think about thousands of mounting attempt to a shared storage(/home/.hidden)
how many tcp connections you would create for the shared storage.
to create "/home/.hidden" folder will only hide the problem, not fixing it.

Thanks
