shortcut to increase volume

Hi guys,

I used gnome on my netbook for a long time until I found xfce. It's perfect and lightweight! There were some issues at the beginning but I solved most of them by myself.
There is one thing I don't know how to solve: It's the shortcut to increase or decrease the master-volume of my netbook. In gnome, I could use the shortcut Fn+RightArrowKey but in XFCE it doesn't work.
How can I change the shortcut for this?

Greetings,
blackdeagle

Re: shortcut to increase volume

Hello,

I advise you to install xfce4-volumed and to launch it at startup. It will automatically detect volume keys and bind them to increase/decrease the volume. It also handles mute keys.

Cheers,

Jérôme

Re: shortcut to increase volume

Thanks for your posting and sorry for my late response, for some reasons I could not log into my account on xfce.org
However, xfce4-volumed works but what do I do if I don't have an "mute/unmute" key on my keyboard?

Re: shortcut to increase volume

You should have a look at xmodmap or xkb to map another key to mute/unmute.

Re: shortcut to increase volume

In your Settings->Keyboard you can set some application short cut...

Command to lower volume:
amixer set Master 5dB-

Command to raise volume
amixer set Master 5dB+ unmute
(Note that I used "unmute",because, if volume is muted and I press the key to raise volume, then I want that it is  automatically switched to unmuted smile )

Command to switch from mute/unmute
amixer set Master toggle

Are you using pulseaudio? If so, this configuration change fixed it for me.
