Network icon missing in panel

This is related to the issue brought up in this forum post -- http://forum.xfce.org/viewtopic.php?id=8799 -- however, the solution doesn't seem to apply to non-Ubuntu distros (e.g., Xubuntu, Linux Mint).

I am running Korora 21 (Fedora-based distro) Xfce with Xfce 4.10, and recently the network icon has dropped off the panel. I am using Greybird on the desktop and whenever I boot, the network icon doesn't appear in the tray. I can change to something else in Appearance, like Crux, and the icon will return (and then, of course, go back to Greybird, and the icon remains), but that seems to be a less-than-ideal workaround. Incidentally, if I change to a new Appearance option (like Crux) and reboot, the Crux desktop will come up but no networking icon -- of course, if I change back to Greybird after rebooting, the network icon appears.

I have two panels -- one across the top of the screen (Panel 1, where the icon usually appears) and one on the bottom, and I'm referring to the icon in Panel 1 at the top.

Wondering if anyone else has seen that, and if there's a solution on the way. Thanks!

Re: Network icon missing in panel

This is a known issue with a recent GTK3 update from Fedora. You can run xfce4-panel -r and it will reappear. For a more permanent fix run 'yum downgrade gtk3 gtk3-immodule-xim'.

You will need to stop yum from updating GTK3 until a fix is released so either run 'yum update --exclude=gtk3*' or add a line with 'exclude=gtk3*' to /etc/yum.conf.

Re: Network icon missing in panel

There has been progress on this bug. An update is in testing. Do 'yum update gtk3 gtk3-immodule-xim --enablerepo=updates-testing'.

Re: Network icon missing in panel

sudo -c 'yum update --enablerepo=updates-testing gtk3-3.14.12-1.fc21'

That was the official way to update according to comment 10 on the bugfile: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1208183#c10
