Hello,
when I login (xubuntu 15.05 32bit) (I am sudoer), my panel tries to enter edit mode immidiately, but I get an errormessage, that I cant enter edit mode, because I m in kiosk mode (but I m not).
When I acknowledge this message, the panel enters the edit mode (with red dashed line around). I have to change something in the Panes properties, then it leaves the editmode.
But on next login it reenters the editmode (and the kiosk mode warning).
Only my account has this problem.
It appeared, when I deleted a second panel on the bottom of my screen.
Reboot doesnt help, saving session doesnt help, deleting session doesnt help.
Is there a(n) file/entry in my user settings, that wasnt deleted somehow, when I deleted the second panel and now it persitst?
Any help would be nice.
Last way out could be: to delete my account and recreate it.
thanks, rockford.

What does this mean? Are you logging in as root?

Do you have xfce4-panel in your autostart files (or more specifically, "xfce4-panel -p")?
What do the following return?
ls -l ~/.config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/
head -5 ~/.config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xfce4-panel.xml

Yes it autostarts, the command line (form ps aux) is

Hello,
I overlooked an other error message at login, seems, this is the key to the problem.
When I dont close the "you are in kiosk mode and cant edit" dialog, this second dialog opens again and again (6 times:
Error
"Could not open Settings Dialog (translation from german)
Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include:
the remote application did not send a reply,
the message bus security policy blocked the reply,
the reply timeout expired,
or the network connection was broken."
When I leave them open and do a ps aux |grep panel
I get:

So there are a lot of panels in edit mode, but i cant see them.
Only one, which is not in edit mode.
When I close the ERRORs all the xfce4-panel --preferences disapear.
And when I close "Not in kiosk mode" dialog the only shown panel goes to edit mode.
Hope this will help and won't confuse you.

Something is firing up all of those panel preferences dialogs.
By autostart, I meant in your ~/.config/autostart (or Settings Manager > Session and Startup > Application Autostart). What does the following return?
ls -l ~/.config/autostart
Can you also try manually clearing out your sessions cache:
1. Logout
2. Ctrl+Alt+F1
3. Log in to console session
4. Issue the following commands:
cd .cache
rm -rf sessions
5. Return to GUI (Ctrl+Alt+F7)
6. Log in and see.

He ToZ, you're the hero of the day,
cleaning the cache manually did the trick.
Nice side effect is: logging in is a little bit faster and opening the whiskers menu is much more faster.
Thanks a lot.
