Re: how to install xfce & xfce apps on debian / devuan ?

Information on manually building Xfce 4.19 (git master) can be found here.

A few notes:

  1. Since you are using a debian-based distro, make note that you will need to specify the "--libdir" parameter as debian splits 32 and 64 bit libraries into separate directories under /usr/lib.

  2. Probably best to test in a VM install first until you get it working

  3. Also a good idea to start with a base image with no existing Xfce packages installed (so they don't interfere).

There may be a debian-based repository of 4.19 packages, but I'm not aware of one. Perhaps someone else knows.

Looks like at least most if not all of 4.19 is in the experimental repo. Might be worth a try. I wouldn't do it on a production system.

i don't want try it on production machine too ... if i want to make experiments i would use the testing / unstable branch of debian/devuan

From unstable then I would just enable the experimental repo, update only what you need for xfce then disable the repo. Periodically repeat to keep in line with development.
