[Solved] Login - Window for entering password for sudo does not open

Hello and good evening,
I have changed the desktop in Linux AVL23 from Enlightenment to XFCE4, where I have had very good experiences so far. XFCE is more familiar to me than Enlightenment. The only problem so far has been with programs that require sudo rights.
If I want to call up Synaptic or the GUFW, for example, nothing happens.
The login screen for the password request does not appear.
However, program calls via the terminal with Sudo Synaptic etc. are possible. It would be nice if you could give me a hint as to how I could activate the login window for the system programs.
Many thanks in advance and sorry for bad English.

You likely need policykit agent. Something like pkexec or lxpolkit. These will popup when authorization is needed. Not sure what Enlightenment uses by default. Myself I have pkexec.

Re: [Solved] Login - Window for entering password for sudo does not open

Many thanks for the tip. As I have seen, I have pkexec installed. Enlightenment also uses policykit. I tried to start the program once via the console. Below is the output:

AVL-MXe Enlightened
hoomer@avl-mx:~
$ synaptic-pkexec
==== AUTHENTICATING FOR com.ubuntu.pkexec.synaptic ====
Authentication is required to run the Synaptic Package Manager
Authenticating as: hoomer
Password:
polkit-agent-helper-1: error response to PolicyKit daemon: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.PolicyKit1.Error.Failed: No session for cookie
==== AUTHENTICATION FAILED ====
Error executing command as another user: Not authorized

This incident has been reported.
hoomer@avl-mx:~

Unfortunately, I do not have the appropriate background knowledge to interpret this output correctly. Is there a recommendation where I could continue?

Thanks in advance

Try installing policykit-1-gnome. It may be called something else depending on your distro.

That was it!
I have installed it, rebooted and tested it.
Many thanks for the great support!

Good stuff! Mark the thread [Solved] by editing the original post so others may know.
