[Solved] Suspend/Hibernate on CQ50 Laptop

Hi all. First post for me.

When I shut the lid on my Compaq CQ50 laptop xfce won't 'wake-up'. (xubuntu) It works in lxde. Using ldm.

I've looked at a couple of recent posts but the solutions haven't worked for me. Here is the output from power manager:

What version of xubuntu are you using?

Do you have an external monitor connected to the laptop, or just the laptop screen?

Are you sure that the laptop is not waking up as opposed to the screen re-displaying? You should see some flickering LEDs to indicate whether the system is back from suspend. Depending on the version you are using, you should have a /var/log/pm-suspend.log file that might help identify the cause.

No external monitor.
Your terminology is probably more accurate than mine - I can log into another tty with ctrl/alt/fn.
Just discovered that if I close the lid once then open it the screen stays black but if I then close it again, wait a few seconds and then open it again everything comes back on.
I've looked at the log but have no idea what I'm looking for.

There was a bug that did this but I thought the bug was fixed.

Is this a fresh install or an update? Either case, try following the instructions here.

When you open the lid, do you at least see the light-locker password screen? Or is it hidden as well?

Finally, what video card and driver are you using?

Also make sure you are fully updated.

It's an update - sort of. I installed xubuntu originally but when I ran into this problem I tried lxde which worked - then I removed all of xfce4. Then lxde seemed to be dropping my wifi connection regularly so I reinstalled xfce (I like it better anyway). Everything is now up to date.

When I open the lid the first time the screen will flash what seems to be the session I was in, then it just goes black. Wait for a while, close the lid again, wait for a while, open the lid again, the screen flashes then the session comes up and everything is back to normal. Once I had to push the power button on the second opening to get it going.

I didn't have light-locker installed so I installed it and followed the suggestion in the link you gave but it didn't change anything.

There is no log-in screen when it restarts - it just goes straight back to the session.

The video card is an NVIDIA GeForce 8200MG using the nouveau driver.

Remove light-locker.

Create a keyboard shortcut for the command:

xrandr --auto

On resume from suspend, press the keyboard shortcut. Does it help?

Then you are suffering from this bug. Which is surprising to me because I thought it only affected external monitors. You should post to that bug report so that your info is there as well.

In the meantime, you can use the keyboard shortcut as a workaround.
