xfce4-session-logout problem

Using Xubuntu 14.04 with xfce4.10 and the 'xfce4-session-logout' no longer offers the logout, restart, or  shutdown options but brings up the login screen. How can I reset it to the way it supposed to be ? There are no options specified with the command.

Re: xfce4-session-logout problem

Can you post your ~/.xsession-errors.old log file? There may be some hints in there.

Re: xfce4-session-logout problem

Sorry for the delay and thanks for trying to help me

.xsession-errors.old

openConnection: connect: No such file or directory
cannot connect to brltty at :0
Script for none started at run_im.
Script for auto started at run_im.
Script for default started at run_im.
init: update-notifier-crash (/var/crash/_usr_sbin_lightdm-gtk-greeter.112.crash) main process (1537) terminated with status 1
init: Disconnected from notified D-Bus bus

Always have crashes when I get to the desktop.

"Script for none started at run_im." This must be the bash file I added to set up nouveau video to my preferred resolution and this always works without any problems.

"Script for auto started at run_im." I have Autokey installed and start at boot up.

The rest I don't know

Re: xfce4-session-logout problem

1. After you crash, is there something in your dmesg about xfce4-session:

dmesg | grep xfce4-session

...an error message of some sort would be very helpful.

2. Is your system fully updated?

3. Exactly what version of xfce4-session are you running:

xfce4-session -V

...and what version of libglib2 are you running:

apt-cache policy libglib2

4. Finally, just to confirm, are you running "xfce4-session-logout" manually from a terminal window?
What happens when you use the menu or actions button log out options?
And can you confirm that your system is crashing when you go back to the "login screen"? If you log in again, is all your work and open windows gone?

Re: xfce4-session-logout problem

All updates are as of yesterday evening. didn't check the today's updates

dmesg | grep xfce4-session

Brings up nothing

xfce version
xfce4-session 4.12.1 (Xfce 4.12)

apt-cache policy libglib2
Unable to locate package libglib2

I will reboot and reply to your other questions.

I always logout with the GUI  button where I get the 3 options. Never logout or shutdown through the terminal, unless something went wrong.
When I log out everything is normal. When returning to the desktop, it's a fresh start. nothing remained open from the previous session.

Are you using a PPA to get Xfce 4.12? The default for 14.04 is 4.10.

apt-cache policy libglib2
Unable to locate package libglib2

Sorry, that should have been:

apt-cache policy libglib2.0-0

When I log out everything is normal. When returning to the desktop, it's a fresh start. nothing remained open from the previous session.

Maybe I'm not understanding your issue. My understanding from your original post was that you were not getting the logout dialog when you ran "xfce4-session-logout" and instead your system was dumping you out of your session back to the login screen.

Can you explain your issue again? Maybe in a little more detail?

Re: xfce4-session-logout problem

My first post about the logout: I didn't have the "Prompt on logout" checked, but by experimentation with my options, I found it and it works fine. So, please consider this issue closed and will now open a new post about other xfce bugs and problems. Thanks.
