I logged back in and found all the icons on my desktop missing!
Also default Fedora background and not the one selected.
Checked the settings manager for xfce and all seems normal?
Have tried restarting and also restarting xfwm4, all to no avail.
Can anyone tell me what I am missing here?
I am running Fedora 22 xfce spin 64bit
Kind regards

It is possible that something other that xfdesktop is managing the desktop (nautilus, pcmanfm, etc...)
Try starting "xfdesktop" in a terminal window and see if you get any errors or it all comes back?
You might also look at your current process list to see if any of nautilus, pcmanfm, or nemo (?does nemo manage the desktop?) are running (which might also be managing the desktop).

Hi ToZ, thanks for that. It seems as if my xfce desktop had not started!
Restarted and all ok now...
Not sure what happened, some sort of corruption?
Thanks very much.
Kind Regards

Maybe. Try clearing your saved sessions cache. One of two ways to do this:
1. Settings Manager > Session and Startup > Session tab > "Clear saved sessions"
2. When not logged into Xfce, delete the ~/.cache/sessions folder.
