I finally got my dell 34" ultrawide yesterday, i unplugged my old main monitor and plugged in the new one, i got 2 screens connected. It all works as it supposed to except i cant seem to be able to change the wallpaper for some freakin reason, its like the system still thinks my old main screen is connected or something...
heres my xrandr output if that might be to any help: http://pastebin.com/LAbarJuh
xorg.conf: http://pastebin.com/p3axssmD
xfconf-query -c xfce4-desktop -lv output: http://pastebin.com/juN8sbth
And while im at it, how do i overclock my new monitor in linux? works fine at 80hz in windows. i cant add custom resolutions with xrandr to the screen i got problem with it says
xrandr --verbose --addmode DP-4.8 "3440x1440_80"
X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
Major opcode of failed request: 140 (RANDR)
Minor opcode of failed request: 18 (RRAddOutputMode)
Serial number of failed request: 49
Current serial number in output stream: 50
this is what i used to add the new mode xrandr --newmode "3440x1440_80" 571.75 3440 3712 4088 4736 1440 1443 1453 1510 -hsync +vsync
DP-4.8 is the screen i got issues with, DP-2 works as its supposed to, i cant even find it under displays in settings editor... something wierd is going on here for sure
xubuntu 14.04
xfce 4.10
nvidia 358.16

are you sure about the 80hz? a quick google search lists it as 85hz monitor, also where did you get that modeline?

The lg 34" monitor is a 60hz monitor wich can be oc'd to 85 in some cases i have just tried with 80hz and it worked fine the modeline did i get from running cvt 3440 1440 80 as im trying to follow this guide http://www.monitortests.com/forum/Threa … g-on-Linux
However i seem to have solved the desktop issue when i disabled displayport 1.2 in the monitors menu now the system finds it as DP-4 instead of DP-4.8.... But the modeline aint working
