Can I modify the theme colors directly in the system files? I have the original install packages .
The reason is that most of the skins I like, show the clock digits, and the menulibre colors in white, and there is no contrast between the open menu and the screen backgrounds I work on.

You could, but if the themes were installed from your distro's repositories and the package gets updated, your changes may be overwritten.

I will make backups and make a copy of the modified file(s).
Thanks for the speedy reply. At this point, I don't know if the themes are gtk2 or gtk3, and how to lay out the file in the home .gtkrc. Furthermore, my concern is that in GTK3 there is more than one file needs to be modified. Will search the web.
