Advice on how to fix an indicator plugin bug in a theme

The bug is in the new Linux Mint Mint-Y theme which I'd like to use but this indicator plugin bug is too annoying. I've tried having a look at the theme files myself, but I don't really even know how to start with fixing it.

Any advice appreciated :-)
